... there was a cupbearer responsible for serving Pharaoh his drinks. – Slide 5

This man was trusted to make sure no one could poison the drinks he served to Pharaoh. – Slide 6

However he so upset Pharaoh one day that the guards were called. – Slide 7

And he was marched off to the prison where Joseph was being kept. – Slide 8

Also working on the same day was Pharaoh’s baker. – Slide 9

Some time later, when Joseph came into their cell one morning, he saw they were both looking sad. ‘We both had dreams but we don’t understand them,’ they muttered. ‘God can interpret dreams,’ Joseph told them. ‘Tell me what you dreamt.’ – Slide 13

The cupbearer went first. ‘In my dream I saw a vine in front of me, and on the vine were three branches.’ – Slide 14

‘As soon as it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters ripened into grapes. Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup ...’ – Slide 15

‘Then I put the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.’ – Slide 16

‘This is what it means,’ Joseph told him. ‘The three branches are three days. Within three days Pharaoh will give you your job back You will serve him his cup again.’ Joseph – Slide 17

Joseph then asked the cup bearer to do him a favour. ‘I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and now find myself in prison having done nothing wrong,’ he explained. ‘When you get your job back please mention me to Pharaoh.’ – Slide 18

The baker then told his dream. – Slide 19

‘On my head were three baskets of bread. In the top basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh ...’ – Slide 20

‘... but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.’ – Slide 21

‘The three baskets are three days,’ Joseph explained and then broke the bad news. ‘Within three days Pharaoh will cut off your head. And the birds will eat away your flesh.’ – Slide 22

Three days later it was Pharaoh’s birthday and he gave a party for all his officials. The baker and the cupbearer were summoned from jail. – Slide 23

Everyone awaited Pharaoh’s judgement on them both. – Slide 24

The cup bearer was released and given his job back. – Slide 25

The baker was next to learn his fate. – Slide 26

Pharaoh ordered his immediate execution. (His head was cut off and impaled on a pole). – Slide 27

Once back in his job the cup bearer forgot all about Joseph and did not mention his name to Pharaoh. – Slide 28
